I haven’t read much about the new FTC rules that became law yesterday, but I thought I’d pass on a couple of good links to other blog posts talking about the subject. I’ll update this post with more links as I run across them and comment when I know more about how to deal with the rules.

Thanks for sharing this new guidelines about FTC rules. If ever it will become a law I am hoping that it could really help us. Thanks for the great share.
FTC had new rules its was out of my knowledge. thanks for this info. I will check it out fully.
I also didnt know about the new rules. Thanks for informing us.
The new rules only apply to the big fish. People who are making ridiculous claims and bogus testimonies need to watch out!

It should be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. Many sales pages, television and internet advertisements, and other marketing media don’t comply with the new rules. Some of the companies using non-compliant ads are either going to have to changes things up or bow out.
i cant hear the sound ;(
These new FTC rules may be a bureaucrat’s delight but are tedious for lay folks.
we shouldn’t forget that blogs are somewhat the backbone of the internet and stand for that. social media is going to vanish one day but blogs are going to stay.
These new FTC rules rile!. They are a cumbersome hindrance to smooth operation on the net.
These rules only clog up the free flow on the internet.
Why do we need these new FTC Rules, anyway?

If these new Rules hamper the smooth flow on the net, they should be done away with and quickly.
Why do these bureaucrats require so many rules anyway? And on the net, to boot?
Consider a world without law and order and rules to be followed. Then these rules are imperative.
I also didnt know about the new rules. Thanks for informing.
This is my first time i visit here and I found so many interesting stuff in your blog especially it’s discussion, thank you.
Good information. Thank you for sharing about the FTC rules.
How will these changes affect online marketing? When do the new guidelines go into effect?
Took me long to all the remarks, but I really enjoyed the article. It proved to be very usable to me and I am sure to all the commenters here! Its always good when you can not only be educated, but also involved! Im sure you had fun saving this article.
This is really world shattering news. A lot more work would have to be done for all marketers from now on. Although from the consumers point of view, they have much more protection from now on. This is from the view that the consumers now have more accurate information regarding about the performance of the product.
When I firstly saw your web, I’ve been around in many pages that I’ll use to get my final assignment.
If you don’t mind, I will contact you to make short discussion for my project.
Thank for sharing about this FTC rules . I didn’t know about this too. I will read more about this and share some thoughts with everybody.
Sigh. More new rules and regulations. It sure is cumbersome to keep up! The internet should remain free and relatively unregulated!
I had no idea about these new rules. Thanks for sharing

This is aiding really nice for me! Internet marketing to me can really be quite easy – you just need to know what you are doing and no blindly do something and hope that tomorrow you will see money. And once again, thank you for sharing!
Its great to see recycling becoming such a major part of our everyday lives. More and more large companies are now thinking about how they are using their resources. A skip hire company near me now offer recycling to reduce your costs as it requires much less land fill tax, good news!!
I had no idea they changed the rules. But apparently they did. Maybe because i started with internet research around march 2010. FTP is a usefull tool. Thanks for the update
Wow that is crazy! I havent been reading your blog long, but this post is just great! I cant wait to take a look at other, similar, posts on the blogyou have written!

Under the FTC’s new rules, if an advertiser puts up a sign it can now legally bribe bloggers and demand coverage within hours, and any liability for the remaining non-disclosure is purely the problem of the blogger. With advertisers now insulated, I’m going to bet that the FTC will not expend too many resources chasing every single blogger in the country to enforce this.
My only problem is that the FTC is singling bloggers out. It’s a total double standard. Traditional media is way more guilty of getting special treatment from companies, gifts, trips, dinners, etc… and they carry more influence (for now) than bloggers do. I find the penalty heavy handed, and insulting that they consider bloggers to be unprofessional, when in fact the bloggers who carry any influence at all are indeed professionals.
I agree to you Robert. I myself is a blogger, but not that so long. For me this new rule is unfair for bloggers.
The FTC introduced new rules requiring that bloggers disclose gifts they receive from advertisers. This is good news for those of us who do use ethical marketing practices and play by the rules. Iso it is batter rules
As to the FTC regulating affiliate marketing, will this extend to multi-level marketing as well? Sounds like honesty is the best policy. I understand that each “vendor” should take the responsibility for validating the a product and be transparent about their role as a salesperson. Does that sound accurate?
The real question for the FTC is a matter of enforcement. Are they doing this to remain relevant? Keep the rules in check for a rapidly changing market? Enforcement will be difficult, but I have no doubt that some of the more blatant offenders are probably already on the FTC’s watchlist and will be the first to feel the wrath of these new rules in order to serve notice that they are paying attention.
It’s all about transparency and honesty. If you say you’re paid to endorse a product, you’re okay. If you are clear about ads being, well, advertisements, you’re clear. If you express your own opinion and don’t make claims promising results you can’t support, you’re probably okay. I don’t see this as big brother, more like big momma making sure I don’t get cheated or fooled … or keeping it real.
I’m all for transparency and honesty. Since my practices are already ethical, I’ll simply need to add some clarification language to my resource page (product endorsements for small businesses; some affiliate links), and review my testimonials page for compliance of “typical results a consumer can expect to achieve”.
Bloggers especially stand to gain. Being transparent is never a bad thing, and I think the disclosure will make bloggers more trustworthy overall. After all, it’s okay to write paid reviews – but readers deserve to know the motivations of why a certain product or service is being featured (sponsored or not).
Well I’m not sure what else I can say as it’s all been said above, but great article. Thank you for sharing info about the FTC rules.
Great article! Very useful information. Thanks.
To state the obvious: you should always be completely honest in your reviews, and of course never say (or blog) anything that you can’t back up or stand behind. My issue with these potential regulations is in the FTC judging whether my opinion is offensive – according to their strict guidelines – or whether my results are typical or not.

Great article on a great site! Thank you for the information
Those FTC rules are a good idea as when we are searching for topics in Google, we don’t want to be presented with topics that are of no use. I agree with these actions.
Thanks for sharing!!!
As a Newbie, I am always searching online for articles that can help me. Thank You.

I think everyone in the online community should step up and embrace the ideal of full transparency online as this helps with propagation of ideas and free speech without the need for global control by rigorously imposing regulations.

Thanks Reba!
The FTC Act prohibits unfair or deceptive advertising. To help you comply with the Act, the FTC has issued rules and guides about truthful advertising of products offered for sale by mail or telephone. For example, under the rules and guides.
