Age discrimination does exist. Twenty years ago when I was a young engineer, I changed company because the other company was going out of business. My first day on the job, I submitted a resume to my new boss and recommended this engineer to him. I regarded the engineer as a mentor with years of valuable experience. However, my new boss did not think the same way. He told me that the guy was "too old" to be considered for the job. I was shocked!! Rest assured. Age discrimination does exist.
