Contributors Needed for Newbie Training Giveaway

I just signed up to be a contributor in the Newbie Training Giveaway put together by Bill McRea. Bill put this event together to help new internet marketers get started in 2009.

The event will run from January 7 to January 31, 2009 and Bill still needs contributors.

These giveaway events are a fantastic way to build your subscriber list. Many marketers mistakenly assume that the people who download information from a free giveaway are just freebie seekers and will never buy anything. This is the wrong assumption to make. It’s true, many will be freebie seekers who never buy but so are those that sign-up at your website. Once you have a subscriber on your list, they will start to hear from you and eventually start thinking of you as an authority. Soon it will come that they are in the market to buy because it gets to be too time consuming for them to sift through the internet (or their hard drive) for the information they seek.

Basically, it’s a numbers game and the bigger the numbers on your list, the more buyers you will have.

So, consider joining this giveaway if you have a product that suits a newbie marketer. Additionally, there is an upgrade option where you can compete to win prizes and offer one-time-offers to those who download your giveaway item. It’s worth looking at, here’s the link:

I have a product entered in the giveaway and, if I do say so myself, it’s a good one (that’s the cover in the pic above). It’s calledGet Started Growing Your Website Traffic” and it’s going on sale after the giveaway. Anyone who is a newbie marketer will truly benefit from the information included in this report. So, if you want the info and you want it for free, keep your eyes open for the start of the “Newbie Training Giveaway” that will start on January 7th. Sign-up for my mailing list and I’ll send you a reminder.

Bill is looking for only quality information products that can help newbies break the learning curve. If you are interested in participating now is the time to get involved.

This is a good way to get your internet business started.

Cheers!

    Aloha Reba,

First, I want to thank you for your efforts to help Newbie Boomers like me get started with Internet Marketing.

I really like the look and feel of your blog, and was quite excited to have found you near the top when I googled “online training newbie boomers”.

Your tag “Straight Talk For Baby Boomers About Making Money Online” is very enticing, so it is in that spirit that I am taking the time to offer you the following feedback to help keep you on target.

Boomers, especially early “leading edge” ones like me (I was born in ‘46) tend to suffer from a relative comparative disadvantage when it comes to Internet Marketing, because we were simply not raised with computers. (My teenage son was the one who first helped me access email on “his” computer)

At this point in our lives when we are ready to retire and reinvent ourselves to rebuild our retirement nest eggs, we desperately need help, from trustworthy mentors, to learn how we can indeed make money online as you promise.

This is not just a personal issue, it is a serious societal problem that needs to be addressed, to help millions of people in our generation boost their productive (post-retirement) capacity by becoming skilled online entrepreneurs. A lot depends on it as you well know.

You are on the cutting edge of history in your attempt to help us as a group, and again I want to thank you for your efforts on our behalf.

However, it is critical for you to speak with an authentic voice if you want to be heard and trusted…

What is prompting this comment, is your apparent promotion of the “Newbie Training Giveaway”.

The sign-up process was such a turn-off that I fell compelled to write this note to you Reba to tell you that you are jeopardizing your own credibility when you recommend something so bad.

This is the first time ever for me to write a comment on any blog, but I could not let it go.

Bill McRea may be well intentioned, but his approach is the best example that I have seen of “What not to do” if you want to recruit customers.

Instead of welcoming new subscribers, he hits them with: “STOP: Important Before You Continue… Buy this crappy one-time offer for $27″, without even one iota of foreplay.

It was a complete turn-of and simply left, but I could not ignore this insult to our collective intelligence!!!

That’s why I am deciding to speak up with you here.

Please go back to his site, try to sign in as a new customer and let me know what you really think.

If it is appropriate, I hope that you will find it meaningful to share your perspective with your readers.

You promise “Straight Talk For Baby Boomers About Making Money Online”…

This could be a good opportunity for you to step up to the plate and speak with an authentic voice.

Thanks again for your efforts to enlighten us and best wishes for your success as an aspiring online business coach.

    With much Aloha from Maui,

    Gab

    Gab,

Thank you for your candid comments, I appreciate your time and thoughts.

You’re right, I didn’t sign-up as a customer because I was a contributor and didn’t see the road you had to travel to get to the free give-aways. I don’t doubt there was a barrage of offers, etc. and I don’t doubt that once inside, there was some crap. However, in the midst of all the crap, there was some really good stuff that you didn’t have to pay any money for. The ones that come to mind are the ones given away by Willie Crawford.

I understand that you’re new to internet marketing and computers and maybe I’ve just come to expect that stuff. That’s the method used by a lot of people that sell information on the internet. I’m sure you understand that there’s never anything that’s 100% free, you’re going to have to pay a price of some kind. In this case you had to give your email address and get hit with offers that you had to decide whether or not to buy before you could even look at the free stuff. Then, with so many products offered, it took time to sort through to find what you want.

I’m sorry you were unhappy and I apologize if you feel I misled you. But you can always look at the bright side and turn this into a learning experience. You learned that if you want free information on the internet, it’s going to cost you time. You also learned what free on the internet means and what to expect if you decide to look at a future give-away. My guess is you will stay far, far away from them.

In fact, this give-away was a learning experience for me as well. I learned that it was a lot of work for me with very little return. I put a lot of time into the report I gave away, way more work than I ever want to put into an item I just give away. Next time, my work will be even better and it will be for sale, this time was practice.

Anyway, I hope you find some information that’s of value here. I’m not going to be able to post as often, my day job is getting to be way more demanding because we’ve had a bunch of layoffs and those of us left have to pick up the slack.

One thing I will say to you, making money as an internet marketer is hard. It takes patience, lots of time, and it’s not consistent. I love the idea of making money by writing and setting my own schedule and not going to a job, but I have not been able to make enough money yet to replace the income I make at my day job. I hope you’re able to find a way to make it work and I don’t doubt that you will find one as long as you’re willing to give it the necessary time.

P.S. I belong to Willie Crawford’s membership site and Bill McRae is also a member. I’ll see if I can track him down and get him to respond here.
