Has it been a productive year?

12/20/08 - HOT NEWS! Gary Ryan Blair’s new program, “Got Resolutions?” is now available. Click to go to the website:

Got Resolutions?

As a boomer, there are many times I wonder where my days go.  Have you caught yourself saying, it’s September already?  Well, yes it is September and it won’t be long till the holidays are upon us and we will be wondering where the year went.

And when the year is over we’ll be asking ourselves questions like, was it a productive year?  Did I accomplish what I wanted?  And did I use my time effectively and productively?  I am sure a lot us can say “yes” to some areas of our life, but I’d be willing to bet we’d have to say “no” to other areas.  What will it take for us to be able to say “yes” to all these questions?

I’ve been a long time fan of Gary Ryan Blair, or “The Goals Guy” as some of you may know him. Since September 22nd marks the 100 day countdown of 2008, Gary is coming forward to challenge us with his 100 Day Finish Strong Challenge!

Here are some questions Gary has put together for you to consider as you push toward the finish line and call this year a wrap:

  1. What specific results have you achieved so far this year?
  2. Are you healthier, wealthier, and wiser?
  3. Are you winning, losing or just holding ground?
  4. What results are you committed to achieve by the end of the year?
  5. How have you grown and what have you learned this year?
  6. Is there any unfinished business that needs to be tended to in your life?
  7. Are you actively pursuing what’s most important on a daily basis?
  8. What habits or behaviors do you need to change to ensure better results?
  9. What is the key issue that inhibits your ability to perform at your best?

Tough questions huh?

These questions help us to assess not only the goals that we set for ourselves, but also how we’ve managed our time in accomplishing these goals. And are we better off for it.

Setting goals should be the beginning step in any endeavor but how many of us actually take the time to sit down and put our goals to paper and outline the steps required to reach these goals.  Setting goals for even the small things we want to accomplish will help us to be successful and have the confidence to approach the bigger endeavors we will want to achieve.

Being a baby boomer, all of us are thinking about retirement.  Are we on schedule to be where we want to be when that time comes?  Do we have the steps we need to take over the next few years to achieve this goal written down?  Achieving this life goal will most likely require steps along the way that needs it’s own set of goals.

Financial goals aren’t the only goals we need to consider, what about those goals that are aimed at achieving a healthy and happy lifestyle?  Are we maintaining a healthy lifestyle?  Did we start that new hobby we’ve so desired?  Have we developed some new personal relationships that will make us happy as we move forward?

Goals are important for us to have. They make it crystal clear what we want to accomplish over the long term.  Our ideas and thoughts change over time and our goals can be upgraded or changed, but generally our original desires will remain in place. And basically that’s to have enough money and to be happy.

So will you join Gary and I in the 100 Day Finish Strong Challenge?

The 100 Day Finish Strong Challenge is a structured performance improvement program where challengers compete against themselves to achieve a number of challenging goals and finish the year strong.

You, me, and other competitors from around the world will be provided with a performance plan, a disciplined implementation process, daily measurement systems, and a very unique accountability tool along with specific tactics and strategies to attain your goals.

The concept of a 100 Day Challenge is great, and maybe exactly what a lot of us need. But I think for a lot of us boomers, the biggest issues with making this a productive year are out of our control.

Between juggling the needs of a teenage child and responding to a never-ending stream of medical emergencies with parents, the idea of planning more than a few days ahead sometimes seems pointless. I’m reduced to doing things like writing articles that link to affiliate products & hoping something breaks before the money runs out.

  3. Reba on November 3rd, 2008 7:57 am

William, you’re right, it’s tough to have so much going on at once but baby steps is the way to do it. Just keep writing articles, even if it’s just one a week you can set that goal. Writing one a week (more if you can) is better than not writing any at all. Also, if your financial situation allows, outsourcing some of the work, like the writing, will help you get more articles published quicker.

It appears you have the correct strategy for your articles. You’re getting posted in Ezine Articles which is very good. You’re linking from here to the article, good strategy, and then from the article to your website. Also post some Squidoo lens that link to articles or other authority sites that then link to your website. Then multiply your websites using the same strategy.

There’s one improvement you could make to your website and that would be to hide your affiliate link. Check this article, How To Cloak Affiliate Links, it’ll show you how.

Good luck and keep pushing on.

This is a very interesting article and make me want to think about my life I’d been living for 25 years. Well, I’m still young but I think that this goal oriented challenge is a very good thing for anyone of any age who want to take the challenge. Unfortunately, I had found this article too late. Its november already. maybe next year will be a better start, and then maybe i’ll accept the challenge. More power to all that participated. God Bless!

Weng, you’re right, you missed the 100 Day Challenge that Gary Ryan Blair offered but what about making your own 50 Day Challenge? So much can be done in two months, what do you want to accomplish before the end of 2008? Go for it!

Great Post ! We all have dreams to accomplish. But how many of us achieve it. That can be only accomplished with proper planning & strategy. Thanks

  7. BSMotoring on September 15th, 2009 7:45 am

I agree that financial goals should not be the only criteria for consideration in any enterprise. The well being and happiness of its employees must be an essential prerequisite.

  8. Hajj on September 18th, 2009 8:04 am

Would not too much of an emphasis on achievement of goals and result oriented performance obviate the very purpose of living. Sometimes things you aspired for and did not receive also brings happiness.

Those are really tough questions but helps us analyze our current position in our life goal process. One thing I’ve learned though in this business is, do not ever guarantee your own failure, no big business made it to the top smoothly.

My experience is still limited, but I’ve not seen much benefit from blogs in my business. I’ve seen all the hype and tried some, but with no luck. For me, they rank far behind Adwords and article marketing as far as sales.
